Norwegian deep-tech company Tunable is back at Gastech 2025 with real-time analytics innovation. A third show for the company sees it showcasing the latest innovations in real-time monitoring for the LNG shipping industry.
Per Christian Johnsrud, Business Development Manager, says Tunable’s flagship product, the T1000 Natural gas analyser, addresses a significant challenge, namely the need to accurately monitor and document boil-off gas (BoG) quality on LNG carriers.
"As LNG is increasingly sourced from a wider range of supply regions, nitrogen content in the boil-off-gas has become more variable," explains Johnsrud. "Varying nitrogen levels - while not contributing to energy output or emissions - can distort emissions data, affect engine performance, and lead to disputes between owners and charterers. Left unaccounted for, this invisible component can cause shipowners to report inflated fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions."
Tunable says the T1000 offers a solution by enabling continuous, real-time monitoring of nitrogen in BoG. This provides a clearer picture of actual fuel usage, which in turn helps shipowners improve their Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings and reduce their exposure to CO2-related taxes, such as the EU ETS. "The system also supports regulatory compliance by reducing the need for manual reporting, aligning closely with both IMO and EU requirements," continues Johnsrud. "At the same time, the analyser enhances operational transparency, helping to resolve or even prevent conflicts between charterers and owners - issues that P&I UK has linked directly to nitrogen-related discrepancies."
The company says its technology stands out for its reliability and solid design, and the T1000 is easy to install and operate, requires no calibration or carrier gas, and has no moving parts, making it exceptionally robust and low maintenance. "These features, combined with consistently high uptime and data quality, make it a valuable investment for operators seeking to future-proof their vessels," adds Johnsrud.
