As part of this joint project, Tunable has provided a natural gas analyser with sampling conditioning on FSRU Höegh Galleon. The system has been in operation since September 2019 where it has continuously monitored the complex composition and calorific value of the boil-off gas. The field demonstration has proven that the Tunable gas analyser is successfully measuring mixtures of gases in line with specifications required for LNG carriers. During operations, remote condition monitoring and service has been successfully tested through datalink, removing the need for onboard service personnel.
The system provides fast response time and is capable of identifying rapid changes to the gas composition during operation.
“The Tunable gas analyser has enabled us to get in-situ readings without delay and without consumption of calibration gas. This requires less support, implying significantly lower operation and maintenance cost compared to existing technology.” says Sveinung J. S. Stohle, President & CEO of Höegh LNG.
“We are very pleased with the field experience of the system after 9 months of operation. It demonstrates that the technology is well suited for use in dynamic gas mixtures such as boil- off gas applications, which will provide a major cost savings potential for LNG shipping companies. The results are so encouraging that we are also exploring multi gas data stream analysis for dynamic engine optimization.” says Kristian Hovet, CEO of Tunable AS.
Tunable’s multi gas analyser is performed with micro- and nanotechnology based infrared spectroscopy, conducting in-line measurements of multiple gases accessible in a wide variety of applications. The gas analyser can measure all components of a typical natural gas composition within seconds by only applying power. In addition, online maintenance and condition monitoring optimizes data availability and minimizes operational cost.
